Last week, Gayatri was content for long periods of time to just lay on her blanket and babble and punch. The past two days she wants to be held. Not just cuddled, but held out and "floated" around the apartment. Can I just say, "thank god for my sling." At least I'm able to rest her feet in it and my arms don't get dead as quickly.

We're going to have an adventure downtown this afternoon to visit her Baba at work. Whee!!

JB posted on his MySpace profile that he likes Indian Jones movies. Tee Hee. Now, I can't stop picturing Nilesh in that awesome hat and hearing the music from the film as my husband replaces Harrison Ford in the movies. What if Nilesh just replaced Harrison Ford in all his movies. Witness would certainly be more interesting. And that remake of Sabrina.

Uh oh... now Nilesh is replacing Humphrey Bogart. The accent makes all these fanciful brain wanderings so much more amusing.

Note to all, it is difficult to type with one hand while rocking to simulate a walking motion for your cranky baby.
I spent all morning getting Gayatri to sleep, putting her down carefully, and five minutes later having to pick up a screaming baby.

I have some halibut in the fridge. Now, I cooked some of it Tuesday (the center mass was still frozen) but need to definitely cook more today. Nilesh wanted Halibut curry. This requires some definite prep. Marinade made, garlic/ginger paste, making coconut milk... etc.

So... I finally just realized that if I wear Gayatri in her sling she stays asleep. I just have to chop, clean, squeeze and manuever in the kitchen with a baby on my belly. Not so different from being pregnant except I have to be very aware after touching red pepper powder NOT to touch the baby.

And while cooking, I listened to a CD from my business, which was awesome and funny. Story about a lady who is at war with a rabbit eating her lilies. She then discovers the rabbit has babies and runs out into the street (in her pjs) to save the baby rabbits she's scared into the street by pouring fox urine all over her yard. I was amused.

Now, I'm listening to an audio book. John Adams' biography. It is pretty amazing how fascinating old dead guys lives can be. Makes me want to keep a book of poetry in my pocket because Adams told his son, "You're never alone with a book of poetry in your pocket." Maybe I can substitute a book of poetry for a book of sudoku. Would Adams approve?

Pigeons Beware

I finally finished downloading the five million baby pictures on our camera. And this little gem from grandma and grandpa's visit cracked me up. This picture came about because Nilesh handed me the camera and told me to take pictures of him pouncing on the pigeons. He didn't quite pounce, probably in-law nervousness, but mom and I certainly attempted to pounce those pigeons. Take that, pigeon!

Is it odd that my husband was talking to my knee this morning? I was sitting up, pumping milk and feeding Gayatri when Nilesh said he was going to have a heart to heart with my knee, and proceeded to start whispering to my knee. Wednesday morning weirdness.

Later, Gayatri was just chillin', babbling at nothing and kicking her legs furiously. She seemed happy doing that, so I risked taking a shower. Finished the shower, finished the toothbrushing, hair/face routine and she was STILL just babbling happily. Is it possible her high-need scream phase is over? I can only hope.

I have this long, unfinished entry just sitting over there mocking me. My birth was not the lovely fabulous experience I wanted. I was trying to write the whole thing out in hopes that sharing and writing would make it better. Instead, here's the cliff notes version.

Ended up in the hospital due to small looking baby in ultrasounds.
Labored for 25+ hours in the hospital before I was declared to be not progressing.
C-section happened.
I didn't get to see my baby for another 3+ hours.
Gayatri wasn't allowed to room with me, Nilesh wasn't allowed to stay overnight.
Gayatri developed jaundice.
The jaundice, coupled with nurses blatantly ignoring my "no pacifier" request, coupled with my weird semi-inverted nipples, coupled with Gayatri's tiny mouth made breast feeding not possible.
So, I got a hospital grade breast pump to rent.
Since then, I've been pumping my boobs every 2-4 hours.
Whee!

There. update done. Maybe now that the pressure of not having posted and needing a good catch-up post is relieved and I might be more prone to post again. heh. but with pumping the boobies, a cute high-need baby, and not being very good at typing one handed, we'll see how it goes.
